Northwestern State soccer braces for demanding 2026 campaign

The Demons open against three Power Five opponents and aim to build on last season’s breakthrough

A daunting opening stretch

Northwestern State’s soccer program entered the 2026 season riding the momentum of its first victory over a ranked opponent and a Southland Conference regular‑season championship.

The schedule released by the university pits the Demons against three Power Five schools in their first three matches, beginning with a road test at Oklahoma on August 12, followed by contests at LSU on August 16 and Houston on August 20.

The early slate is designed to challenge the team’s depth, but it also offers a platform to measure progress against elite competition.

After the opening triad, the Demons return home to face Louisiana Tech on September 6 before hosting Arkansas‑Pine Bluff and Lamar to launch Southland Conference play.

The squad will then travel to take on archrival Stephen F. Austin on September 27 and later meet UIW at the start of October, continuing a rhythm of alternating home and road fixtures.

Mid‑season brings a revenge match against Houston Christian at the Demon Soccer Complex on October 15, and the final stretch features three consecutive games against Louisiana opponents.

The Southland Conference Tournament is slated for November 10, 12 and 15, with East Texas A&M serving as host in Commerce, Texas.
