Northwestern University’s field hockey program has unveiled its 2026 preseason watchlist, spotlighting five student‑athletes who are expected to drive the team’s ambitions this fall.
Standout Performers
Among the honorees, senior Ashley Sessa and junior Ilse Tromp have been lauded after capturing Big Ten Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year accolades in 2025, while Olivia Bent‑Cole earned a third‑team All‑American nod.
The watchlist also includes rising talents Juliana Boon and Laura Salamanca, both of whom have impressed on the national stage over the past two seasons.
Coach Julie Shackford praised the group, noting that the recognition reflects not only individual skill but also the depth of the Wildcats’ roster.
Home‑Opening Weekend
The season will open on August 28 with a home clash against VCU at Lakeside Field, followed by a matchup with Lafayette College on August 30. Both games will feature community events, free admission, and special giveaways such as Banner Day and Kids’ Day.
