The Norwalk High School girls soccer squad etched a memorable chapter into Iowa’s spring sports history, advancing to the semifinals of the 2026 Class 2A State Tournament and securing the program’s first state‑level appearance in four years.
A Season Defined by Resilience
Guided by senior leaders Pearl Brown and Olivia Welch, the Warriors finished the regular season with a stellar 17‑2‑2 record, a run that saw them climb to No. 1 in the Class 2A rankings late in the year. Their balanced attack and disciplined defense turned heads across the state.
In the quarterfinals, Norwalk demolished Lewis Central 6‑0, a performance highlighted by Olivia Welch’s three goals and one assist. Pearl Brown contributed an assist, underscoring their chemistry and clutch play under pressure.
Heartbreak in the Semifinals
The Warriors’ fairytale run met its match against North Scott, who edged them 2‑1 in a tightly contested semifinal. Despite the narrow defeat, the team’s achievement resonated beyond the scoreboard, earning recognition from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, which named 11 players to the All‑Tournament Team, including Brown and Welch.
The duo’s inclusion on the All‑Tournament Team reflects not only individual brilliance but also the depth of talent that has defined Norwalk’s recent success. Their senior season will be remembered as a benchmark for future generations of Warriors.
