Family-Like Atmosphere
The 2026 Norwalk High baseball campaign drew to a close with a roster dominated by eight seniors, each of whom left a measurable imprint on the team's performance and culture.
Collectively they accounted for 111 runs scored, 86 runs-batted-in, 104 innings pitched and seven victories, underscoring both their offensive and defensive contributions.
Owen Siemens stood out with a 3-2 record on the mound and a tie for the team lead in RBI, finishing the year with 20 runs driven in.
Ashton Hans contributed a different kind of impact, drawing 20 walks, scoring 22 runs and striking out 38 opposing batters, a blend of patience and power that helped shape the lineup.
The senior group also included Kingston Lamb, Kenyon Wright, Brady Wilkening, Kale Wadle, Xavier Bush and Gavin Briar, each of whom navigated a full season of growth and adversity.
Character Over Skill
Coach Chad Wiedmann, who has guided the program for several years, repeatedly emphasized that character outweighs raw skill, describing the clubhouse as a family-like environment where teammates cared for one another.
After a Class 4A Substate defeat, Wiedmann observed post-game tears, a moment he said revealed how much the program meant to the players and how deeply they identified with the team.
The Warriors finished the season 13-19 overall and placed fourth in the Little Hawkeye Conference with an 8-9 conference record, a result that reflects both the challenges faced and the progress made by a cohort of seniors poised to move on.
