Norwich Men’s Ice Hockey Team Honored for Academic Excellence and Championship Success

A season that blended scholarly achievement with historic athletic milestones

The Norwich University men's ice hockey program has been celebrated for its dual achievements in the classroom and on the rink, capturing both the Little East Conference (LEC) Team Academic Award and a place on the league’s Academic Honor Roll for the Spring 2026 semester.

Academic Excellence

The team posted a collective grade point average of 3.77, a benchmark that reflects the program’s emphasis on scholarly achievement alongside athletic competition.

Twenty‑five Cadets earned spots on the LEC Academic Honor Roll, a distinction that requires a semester GPA of at least 3.00, and they were part of a conference‑wide list of 2,611 student‑athletes recognized for their academic performance.

The honor roll also highlighted a spectrum of academic excellence, with 438 athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA and hundreds more achieving GPAs above 3.90, 3.75 and 3.50.

Championship Run

The Cadets capped a breakthrough season with a 19‑6‑4 record, securing the inaugural LEC regular‑season title and following it with a 4‑1 victory over Babson College in the tournament final.

Their run continued into the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals, where a 2‑1 overtime defeat to Hamilton College ended the campaign, but the performance cemented the team’s status as a rising force in the conference.

Individual Accolades

Goalkeeper Sami Molu was honored as both LEC Goalie of the Year and tournament Most Valuable Player, while forward Cooper Bertrand earned First Team All‑LEC honors and became the 53rd All‑American in program history.

These recognitions underscore the program’s ability to develop talent that excels at the highest levels of collegiate play.

Together, the academic awards and championship milestones illustrate a culture where scholarly ambition and competitive drive reinforce each other, setting a standard for future teams.
