Notre Dame’s football program has added two of the most highly anticipated prospects to its future roster, securing commitments from Julius Jones Jr. and his younger brother Andre Jones. Both athletes chose the Fighting Irish over a host of elite programs, underscoring the coaching staff’s ability to attract top talent.
A Family Legacy in the Making
Julius Jones Jr., a four‑star wide receiver from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, arrives with a national ranking of 75th overall and 12th among receivers in the 2027 class. He helped St. Thomas Aquinas capture a third straight 5A state title, posting 58 receptions for 876 yards and 14 touchdowns last season. In addition to his football prowess, Jones also excelled on the track, recording times of 10.52 seconds in the 100 meters and 21.93 seconds in the 200 meters.
His brother, Andre Jones, a four‑star safety listed at 6‑foot‑0 and 170 pounds, is ranked 315th nationally in the 2028 class and 29th among safeties. Andre trimmed his list to Notre Dame, Florida State, Penn State, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech and UCLA before committing to the Irish, citing the program’s tradition and family connection as decisive factors.
The commitments bring depth to a 2027 recruiting class that already includes wideout Jackson Coleman, a three‑star prospect from Littleton, Colorado. Together, the Jones brothers are expected to bolster Notre Dame’s offensive and defensive backfields, continuing a lineage that began when their father, Julius Jones, starred as a running back for the Irish from 1999 to 2003 and later enjoyed a seven‑year NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints.
The Jones family’s story illustrates how collegiate legacies can shape the next generation of athletes, and Notre Dame’s ability to retain top in‑state and regional talent may prove pivotal as the program looks to rebuild its recent successes.
