A Fresh Look for the Lady Demons
Northwestern State University’s women’s basketball program is set for a significant overhaul as head coach Alan Frey unveiled the first recruiting class that will shape the 2026‑27 season.
The incoming group comprises eight experienced transfers and three high‑school signees, each bringing a distinct skill set and background that Frey believes can instantly elevate the team’s competitiveness.
Among the transfers, KP Parr arrives from Texas State, where she was recognized for her playmaking ability, dishing out 95 assists and recording 43 steals last season. Erica Carr, a junior who previously starred at San Diego and earned a McDonald’s All‑American nomination, adds a strong defensive pedigree.
The class also features promising talents such as Chloe Donnell, a sophomore from Boerne High School who led her team to multiple state championships and collected All‑State honors, and Yaly Ben Harush, who transferred from Northeastern Junior College and averaged 9.6 points per game with a reputation for perimeter shooting.
International additions include Val Montero, a Venezuelan who has represented her country at the AmeriCup and BWB Americas, and India McMahon, who transferred from Nicholls after posting a 17.1‑point average as a sophomore. Both are expected to bring a global perspective to the roster.
Local prospects Stella Allison from Louisiana and Delora Pricop, who moved from Hutchinson Community College, round out the group. Allison’s high school stats of 21 points, five rebounds and four assists per game earned her All‑State recognition, while Pricop’s 45.2% field‑goal shooting at Hutchinson highlights her efficiency.
Coach Frey emphasized that the chemistry and commitment of the new players will be pivotal as the team looks to rebuild its culture and chase success on the court. He noted that the blend of domestic and international talent creates a unique environment for growth.
With a roster that balances seasoned transfers, emerging high‑school stars, and global experience, NSU’s women’s basketball program aims to return to the upper echelon of its conference and contend for postseason accolades.
