UConn women’s basketball legend Nykesha Sales has been appointed an assistant coach on Geno Auriemma’s staff, bringing decades of playing and coaching expertise back to the program.
During her collegiate career from 1994 to 1998, Sales helped the Huskies capture an NCAA championship in 1995 and contributed to two Final Four runs while helping the team secure eight BIG EAST titles.
From Star Player to Coaching Trailblazer
After a nine‑year WNBA stint with the Orlando Miracle and Connecticut Sun, where she earned eight All‑Star selections and led the Sun to the finals, Sales amassed 3,955 points as the franchise’s all‑time leading scorer.
Her coaching journey began at UCF before she moved to the University of Georgia in 2022, guiding both programs to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances.
Reflecting on her homecoming, Sales described the role as a full‑circle moment, emphasizing that Connecticut is where her career began and where she feels most connected to the game.
