Returning Talent and High Hopes
The Oak Harbor girls soccer program enters the new season with a rare combination of experience and depth. Coach Ryan Lacer, now in his fifth year at the helm, will guide a squad that returns 15 seniors and nearly 40 players overall, a roster size that represents the largest in school history.
Among the returning standouts, senior forward Claire Blausey led the team with 18 goals and seven assists last year, while midfielder Kendall Gaines contributed a team‑best 11 assists and four goals. Goalkeeper Haylee Robinson returns after conceding only 11 goals in 18 games, and defender Brooke Tabbert is back in center back, providing stability at the back.
The graduation of key contributors such as Kaitlyn Meloche, Emma Lewis, Hayley Fallgren and Abby Coutcher removes some of the team’s top scorers, but it also creates opportunities for newcomers. Avery Mikolas, who saw time both in defense and attack during the summer, is expected to be a wildcard, and sophomore Mya Smith, who missed the previous season with an injury, could add fresh energy.
The Rockets will face a competitive slate that includes Lake, Genoa, Eastwood, Rossford and Maumee, with Maumee having posted a victory over Oak Harbor in recent meetings. Coach Lacer stresses that the team’s energy, work ethic and readiness will be tested against these opponents as they chase another league title.
Lacer, now in his 17th year overall with the program, believes the blend of senior leadership and youthful enthusiasm positions the team to contend. He notes that the squad’s preparation over the summer has left them eager to start the season with a strong work ethic and a belief that the championship is within reach.
