The Oakland University volleyball program continues to set the benchmark for student‑athlete achievement. For the 2025‑26 season the team earned its eleventh straight AVCA Team Academic Award, underscoring a consistent record of classroom success. The honor is reserved for squads that sustain a collective grade‑point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale throughout the academic year.
The Golden Grizzlies have now been celebrated 15 times in program history, with 14 of the past 15 seasons appearing on the AVCA list. This year, 10 of the 11 Horizon League institutions also received the distinction, highlighting a conference‑wide commitment to academic standards. AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon praised the coaches and players whose dedication fuels both classroom and on‑court triumphs.
Looking Ahead to the 2026 Season
Excitement is building as the Golden Grizzlies prepare for the upcoming campaign. The team will open with an exhibition match at Ferris State on August 15, followed by a regular‑season debut at the Rocket Invitational in Toledo on August 28 against Binghamton. Both venues are steeped in regional volleyball tradition and will provide a early test of the squad’s readiness.
Beyond the scoreboard, the program’s focus remains on nurturing well‑rounded athletes who excel academically and competitively. With a strong foundation of award‑winning scholarship and a schedule that blends challenging opponents with developmental opportunities, Oakland’s volleyball team is poised to continue its dual‑track success into the new season.
