A Glimpse into Football’s Golden Archive
The Jumex Museum in Mexico City is hosting Objects of Glory: Iconic Moments in the History of Football, an exhibition that will run from July 10 to August 30, 2026. Curated in collaboration with Qatar Museums and the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, the show brings together rare artifacts that have shaped the sport’s narrative, offering visitors a chance to see history up close.
Among the centerpiece items are Pelé’s original cleats from the 1970 World Cup, a jersey worn by Diego Armando Maradona during his legendary 1986 victory over England, and a hand‑painted leather ball commemorating the 1888 Football Association Cup Final. A replica of the Jules Rimet Cup, the trophy that once symbolised world supremacy, is also on display, alongside an early rule book from 1893 that reveals the game’s formative principles.
The exhibition is open to the public at no cost, inviting fans from across the globe to experience these pieces without financial barrier. This initiative underscores a broader cultural exchange, linking the legacy of football’s greatest icons with the anticipation of the 2026 World Cup, which will be staged across three nations.
Objects of Glory also highlights the sport’s universal reach, featuring items sourced from England, Brazil, Palestine and beyond. By partnering with Qatar Museums, the exhibition not only celebrates football’s past but also fosters a dialogue about its future, positioning the upcoming World Cup as a milestone for both competition and cultural unity.
