A Day of Play at the Memorial Tournament

Eight Ohio State football players, among them quarterback Julian Sayin and cornerback Devin Sanchez, took part in a clinic with the Golden Cubs at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin. The youngsters, all members of the Golden Cubs who are battling serious illnesses, were treated to a series of drills that included throwing passes, running agility courses and hitting putts on the prestigious golf course.

Luke Montgomery, one of the participating players, described the experience as pure joy, noting how the children’s smiles lit up the fairway. "Seeing the kids have fun on such a storied course was incredibly rewarding," he said, emphasizing the emotional impact of the day.

The clinic also featured interactions with golfers from the First Tee of Central Ohio, a youth development program that uses golf to teach life‑changing values. Ohio State athletes exchanged stories and tips with the young golfers, fostering a sense of community beyond the football field.

Basketball coach Jake Diebler and several other Ohio State athletes joined the football players, creating a multi‑sport atmosphere that underscored the university’s commitment to service. Their presence added an extra layer of excitement for the children, who got to meet a broader spectrum of campus heroes.

The Memorial Tournament’s competitive rounds began on Thursday and continued through Sunday, but the charity clinic stood out as a highlight for both participants and spectators. By blending athletic skill with genuine compassion, the Ohio State contingent demonstrated how sports can be a vehicle for hope and healing.
