The Cover Reveal
EA Sports recently unveiled the cover of its upcoming title College Football 27, showcasing a select group of college athletes who will grace the game's promotional artwork. The image highlights quarterback Dante Moore of Oregon, wide receiver Malachi Toney from Miami, and running back Kewan Lacy of Ole Miss, each celebrated for their breakout performances in the 2025 season.
A Missed Spotlight
Among the standout performers left out is Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith, a receiver who has been heralded as the most promising prospect at his position since Calvin Johnson. Smith earned First‑Team All‑American honors after recording 76 catches for more than 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns, numbers that have kept him at the top of NFL draft boards.
Julian Sayin, Ohio State’s sophomore quarterback, also missed the cover despite a stellar season in which he completed 77% of his passes for nearly 3,700 yards, 33 touchdowns and only eight interceptions. His efficiency and poise have positioned him as a Heisman finalist and a key piece of the Buckeyes’ high‑powered offense.
The omission has sparked discussion among fans and analysts about the criteria used for the cover selection, especially as the Buckeyes’ three‑headed offensive attack — anchored by Smith, Sayin and sophomore running back Bo Jackson — posted 1,290 combined rushing and receiving yards on just 198 touches and scored seven touchdowns. If that production translates into another dominant season, the conversation about the cover may shift in future editions.
