A New Era for Ohio Stadium
Ohio State University is embarking on a $31 million renovation that will fundamentally reshape the visual and auditory landscape of Ohio Stadium, the 104‑year‑old home of Buckeye football.
The crown jewel of the project is a new main videoboard that will dwarf the current 42‑by‑125‑foot screen installed in 2012, featuring cutting‑edge LED technology that promises brighter colors and sharper detail.
Athletic director Ross Bjork said the upgraded board will be brighter and more crisp with modern technology, enhancing the game‑day atmosphere for fans packed into the historic venue.
The renovation is being rolled out in phases; the first phase, approved last year, added a video board in the north end zone and ribbon boards on the east and west sides, and is slated for completion later in 2026 ahead of the upcoming season.
The second phase, given the green light by the board of trustees on June 3, will focus on the south end, where the new board will be slightly wider after the removal of side speakers, and will double the height of the ribbon boards while adding more donor signage.
Field‑level suites are also being added this year in the south end zone, and a fan survey launched in April sought input on additional refurbishments, underscoring the university’s commitment to listening to its community.
With the entire project expected to be finished by the 2027 football season, Ohio State hopes the upgrades will cement Ohio Stadium’s reputation as one of college football’s most technologically advanced stages.
