The Ohio State women's hockey program has positioned itself at the top of the WCHA preseason rankings, earning six first‑place votes and a total of 48 points, the highest tally among all conference contenders.
Preseason Honors
Joy Dunne was honored as the WCHA Preseason Player of the Year, a recognition that underscores her leadership both on and off the ice. The senior forward paced the Buckeyes with 27 goals this season and holds the program’s record for career NCAA goals at 80.
Dunne’s consistency has been a cornerstone for Ohio State; her third consecutive All‑WCHA selection reflects a sustained level of excellence that few players achieve. An Olympic gold medalist for Team USA, she has also missed ten games last season due to national team commitments but still finished second in team points.
Joining Dunne on the Preseason All‑WCHA Team are sophomore Jocelyn Amos and senior Mira Jungåker. Amos, who posted 22 goals and 48 points, ranked second in scoring for the Buckeyes, while Jungåker, a 2026 Olympian representing Sweden, helped the team maintain the nation’s second‑best defensive record at 1.61 goals per game.
The Buckeyes’ upcoming slate promises challenging road trips to Penn State on September 24‑25, St. Thomas on October 2‑3, and Wisconsin on October 9‑10, tests that will reveal how the roster translates preseason promise into regular‑season results.
Despite missing ten contests last year while representing the United States at the international level, Dunne still ranked second in team points, demonstrating her impact even when unavailable for domestic play.
The Buckeyes also boasted the country’s top faceoff win percentage last season at .601, a statistic driven largely by Amos’s 539 faceoff victories, highlighting the unit’s proficiency in gaining possession.
With a blend of veteran leadership, elite talent, and a demanding schedule, Ohio State’s women’s hockey team looks poised to translate its preseason dominance into a competitive season in the WCHA.
