Ohio Valley Conference Rebrands Football Identity Ahead of 2026 Season

Unified branding and new Media Day set for July 2024 as eight schools prepare for OVC competition

A New Era for OVC Football

The Ohio Valley Conference revealed that, beginning with the 2026 season, all of its football‑playing members will compete under the OVC name and logo, marking the conclusion of a three‑year collaboration with the Big South Conference that had operated under the Big South‑OVC Football Association from 2023 through 2025.

The move is framed as a strategic step to unify the league’s identity, reinforce its brand and ensure long‑term stability for the eight institutions that will comprise OVC football, two of which previously competed in the Big South.

OVC Commissioner Matt Wilson described the re‑branding as a reset and a fresh direction for the league, noting that updated logos, graphics and other digital assets will be rolled out to signal a new era of OVC football.

University leaders welcomed the change. Charleston Southern University President B. Keith Faulkner characterized the shift as an evolution of the conference’s identity rather than a break with its partners, while Dr. Jay Gatrell, president of Eastern Illinois University, said a unified brand simplifies marketing and strengthens the league’s competitive edge.

As part of the initiative, the OVC will host an in‑person Media Day in Nashville on July 16‑17, giving coaches, administrators and media an early look at the upcoming season and the new visual identity.

The eight schools slated to compete under the OVC banner in 2026 are Charleston Southern University, Eastern Illinois University, Gardner‑Webb University, Lindenwood University, Southeast Missouri State University, Tennessee State University, the University of Tennessee at Martin and Western Illinois University.
