The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) has unveiled its latest divisional alignments for girls basketball, setting the stage for the upcoming season and outlining how schools across the state will be grouped for competition.
Division VII Landscape
In the Northwest District, Continental will remain in Division VII, while no Putnam County League team will move up or down a division. The stability reflects a careful review of enrollment figures that were recently corrected.
Kalida found itself on the cusp of promotion, with a corrected enrollment of 87 students — just one below the 88‑student cutoff required to advance to Division VI. The narrow margin illustrates how small numerical differences can dictate competitive placement.
Columbus Grove, reporting a corrected enrollment of 110, will stay in Division VI, whereas Ayersville has earned promotion to Division VI and Antwerp will drop to Division VII. These shifts were part of a broader reshuffling that also saw several other district schools change tiers.
Other Northwest District schools slated for movement include Mohawk, Seneca East and Hopewell Loudon moving up, while Horizon Science Academy, Monroeville, South Central, New London and Gibsonburg are headed down. The adjustments come after last year’s district featured five Division VII teams, and a net gain of two schools in that division.
Mike Jones, who oversees competitive balance for the association, said the data underscores the importance of accurate enrollment reporting and its direct impact on competitive equity. He added that the OHSAA projects the number of Division VII districts in the Northwest region will likely remain unchanged, making dramatic shifts unlikely.
