A new ownership era for Oklahoma City soccer
Baker Mayfield, Jalen Williams and Sydney McLaughlin‑Levrone have become the latest high‑profile athletes to invest in Oklahoma City’s future professional soccer club, adding their names to an ownership group that already includes Russell Westbrook and Jozy Altidore.
The franchise is slated to begin play in the USL Championship in 2028 and will call the new MAPS 4 Multipurpose Stadium home, a facility under construction just south of Bricktown that is designed to host professional soccer, concerts and a variety of community events.
A vision that blends sport and community
Christian Kanady, founder and CEO of Echo Investment Capital, said the club represents more than a team on the pitch; it is a catalyst for long‑term community impact and economic growth in the city.
Mayfield highlighted the personal connection he feels to Oklahoma City, noting that the community that supported his rise to national prominence now offers him the chance to give back through sport.
McLaughlin‑Levrone was drawn to the city’s ambition to use athletics as a driver of quality‑of‑life improvements, emphasizing the broader social benefits that a professional franchise can bring.
The investment aligns with Oklahoma City’s recent designation as a U.S. Soccer Forward Community and the groundbreaking of the MAPS 4 stadium, signaling a coordinated push to position the city as a hub for sports‑driven development.
Local leaders expect the club to boost tourism, create jobs and stimulate surrounding businesses, reinforcing the belief that a vibrant sports scene can enhance the city’s overall prosperity.
