A New Soccer Horizon for Oklahoma City
Oklahoma City is poised to welcome a professional soccer franchise that will make its competitive debut in 2028, adding a fresh chapter to the city’s expanding sports landscape.
The project is being driven by Echo Investment Capital, which has attracted a constellation of high‑profile investors, among them former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, NBA guard Jalen Williams and four‑time Olympic gold‑medalist Sydney McLaughlin‑Levrone.
At the heart of the development lies a $1 billion mixed‑use complex that will house a 10,000‑seat stadium built to MLS standards, alongside retail outlets, hospitality venues, a music campus and expansive public green spaces.
The stadium will be situated just two blocks from the Oklahoma City Thunder’s newly completed $1 billion arena, creating a concentrated sports corridor. Construction officially broke ground in early June, and $121 million of public funds have been earmarked for the venue’s construction.
Christian Kanady, chief executive of Echo Investment Capital, argues that sport can serve as a catalyst for community cohesion and economic expansion, positioning Oklahoma City as a nexus where college football, NBA and soccer intersect.
The initiative revives the memory of an earlier USL side that played in a pre‑World War II venue before suspending operations in 2022, aiming to restore a lasting soccer presence in the downtown core.
