Oklahoma Reinvents Its Tight End Corps Ahead of 2026 Season

New coach Jason Witten and transfer additions aim to boost run blocking and receiving

Oklahoma is reshaping its tight end position ahead of the 2026 season, appointing former NFL star Jason Witten as its new tight ends coach in January.

The Sooners have bolstered the group with three transfers from the portal — Hayden Hansen, Rocky Beers and true freshman Jack Van Dorselaer — each bringing a mix of size, experience and upside.

Strategic Additions and Expectations

Hansen, who posted 30 receptions for 257 yards and two touchdowns in 2025, and Beers, who logged 388 yards and seven scores on 31 catches, bring proven receiving threats.

Both players also showed improved run‑blocking grades of 56.7 and 56.4 respectively, a marked jump from the unit’s sub‑50 performances a year earlier.

Looking Ahead

If the new tight ends can translate their practice‑room versatility into game‑day production, the Sooners could see a noticeable jump in both rushing efficiency and play‑action potency.
