The University of Oklahoma announced that a record ten of its football players have been selected to the 2026 Preseason Media Days All-SEC Team, a testament to the program’s rising stature in the Southeastern Conference.
Quarterback Tate Sandell and offensive lineman Ben Anderson earned first-team honors, while a host of other Sooners were recognized on the second team, underscoring the depth of talent returning for the fifth season under head coach Brent Venables.
Preseason Accolades
Sandell, a recent Lou Groza Award winner and 2025 first-team All-American, continues to be lauded for his precision and leadership, while Anderson builds on a trajectory that saw him progress from third-team recognition in 2024 to a second-team slot this year.
The Sooners were projected to finish seventh in the SEC Preseason Media Poll, collecting 1,914 points, behind the traditional powerhouses of Georgia, Texas, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, LSU and Alabama.
Key Contributors
Among the second-team selections, linebacker Kip Lewis brings a career total of 209 tackles, including 18.5 for loss and five sacks, while defensive back Isaiah Sategna III led the team with 68 receptions and eight touchdowns last season.
Punting specialist Grayson Miller averaged 44.4 yards per kick, highlighted by a 66-yard punt, and safety Peyton Bowen contributed 47 tackles with two interceptions.
Defensive lineman David Stone logged 42 tackles, the most among OU’s front seven, and added eight tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks, while freshman left tackle Michael Fasusi started ten games as a true freshman.
Taylor Wein, who registered a team-high 15 tackles for loss and seven sacks, also forced a fumble and recorded an interception, rounding out a defensive unit that looks poised to make an impact.
Season Opener
The Sooners open the 2026 campaign on Friday, September 4, hosting UTEP at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium before traveling to Athens for their SEC showdown on September 26.
