A Rivalry on Ice
Oklahoma State University’s hockey team is set to face Oklahoma University in an unprecedented outdoor contest scheduled for January 30, 2027. The showdown will take place at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma, turning the campus into a winter arena for the first time.
A Festival of Ice and Community
The game is the centerpiece of a five‑day outdoor hockey festival that will feature tailgating zones, live musical performances and multiple public skating sessions. Organizers say the event aims to blend college sports culture with community celebration, inviting fans to experience the sport beyond the rink.
The Bedlam rivalry, already fierce in basketball and football, will now extend to the ice, highlighting the growing prominence of OSU’s program. Just weeks ago the team reached the American Collegiate Hockey Association national championship game, a milestone that has heightened anticipation for the outdoor matchup.
Michael Mann, a longtime supporter of Oklahoma State hockey, confirmed the plans during a recent Board of Regents meeting, underscoring the university’s commitment to innovative fan experiences. The ice surface will remain in place for five days, with three dedicated public skating periods scheduled to allow non‑ticketed attendees to enjoy the venue.
While ticket details are still being finalized, the festival promises to cement the 2027 outdoor game as a landmark event in collegiate hockey, showcasing how tradition and spectacle can coexist on a frozen field.
