Oklahoma State Bolsters Roster with 14 New Players Ahead of 2024 Season

Transfers and freshmen aim to deepen the defensive backfield, tight end corps, and defensive line

Defensive Backfield Reinforcements

Oklahoma State entered the offseason with a clear objective: replenish a roster that had seen key departures and to position itself for a competitive run in the Big 12. In June, the program announced the addition of fourteen newcomers, a mix of transfers, graduate students and freshmen, each slated to contribute in distinct ways.

Among the most anticipated is Trudell Berry, a senior cornerback who arrived from Vanderbilt after a three‑year stint in the SEC. Berry’s 24 career appearances give him a seasoned perspective, and his familiarity with multiple defensive schemes could allow him to slide straight into the two‑deep rotation.

Joining Berry in the secondary is Jeremiah Piper, a seventh‑year senior transfer from Youngstown State. Piper’s extensive college experience adds depth and leadership, qualities the coaching staff hopes will translate into more consistent play on the outside.

Safety Markeith Williams, who spent the last four seasons at the University of Miami, also brings a wealth of game‑time exposure. His time in the Atlantic Coast Conference equips him with a tactical edge that the Cowboys aim to harness in practice and games.

Front‑Line Additions

At the offensive skill positions, tight end Morgan McPhaul steps onto campus from the Virginia Military Institute. Standing 6‑foot‑2 and weighing 265 pounds, he is the largest tight end on the roster and is expected to serve as a potent blocking option both inline and in the backfield.

Defensive tackle Savion Barthelemy, a 6‑foot‑3, 286‑pound freshman from New Orleans, arrives with a physical presence that could immediately challenge for a backup role. Though still acclimating to the college pace, his size and potential have already placed him in conversations for early contributions.

The influx of talent isn’t limited to the defensive side of the ball. Players such as Nygel Farsee and Scott Wright have already distinguished themselves during early workouts, separating themselves at cornerback and signaling that the depth chart may see unexpected shifts before the season opener.
