The offseason saw a massive influx of talent, with nearly 90 players arriving through the transfer portal, setting the stage for a fiercely contested training camp.
Among the position battles, the quarterback spot is already settled, with Drew Mestemaker slated to start under center. At running back, Caleb Hawkins is listed as the primary option, though the depth chart promises ample opportunities for other backs to contribute. Wide receiver Wyatt Young is also penciled in as a starter, while cornerback LaDainian Fields, a holdover from last season, is guaranteed a starting role.

Special teams will be anchored by two experienced specialists. Sam Keltner, who transferred from SMU, arrives as the team’s primary kicker after a standout season that saw him convert 36 of 38 extra points and 14 of 20 field‑goal attempts, including six from beyond 40 yards. Complementing him are backups Joseph Kim and freshman Gabe Pendyala, who provide depth at placekicking.
Punting duties will be handled by Lachie Pozzobon, an Australian native who earned Football Central All‑American honors at Stephen F. Austin. Pozzobon posted a 41.8‑yard average last season, placed 17 punts inside the opponent’s 20‑yard line and boasted six kicks of at least 50 yards. Nate Ost, who transferred from Robert Morris, is expected to manage extra points and field goals, adding another layer of competition for the kicking slots.
