Oklahoma State University’s women’s soccer team opened its preseason schedule with a 2-1 victory over Tulsa University on a crisp evening at Neal Patterson Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
The scoring was led by sophomore forward Sonora DeFini, who netted both goals for the Cowgirls, the first in the 27th minute after a quick pass from midfielder Emma Jensen and the second early in the second half following a setup by Keaton Mitchell.
A Promising Start
Tulsa answered back in the 16th minute when Aniya Facen slipped a shot past the defense, but the Cowgirls’ backline, anchored by goalkeeper Avery Bass, responded with three crucial saves, including a diving stop of Kaylyn Simmons’ header in the second half.
Statistically, Oklahoma State outshot Tulsa 7-1 in the first half and finished with a 9-6 edge in total shots, while also holding a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks, underscoring the team’s attacking dominance.
The Cowgirls are set to begin the regular season on Wednesday against Sam Houston State University, a match that will test the early chemistry forged during preseason.
