Old Dominion University’s field hockey program has announced the arrival of two promising players for the 2026 season, forward Lotte Haagmans and defender Nicole Derluk.
A Strategic Boost for the Program
Haagmans, a transfer from Long Island University, brings a prolific scoring record, having topped the Northeast Conference with 22 goals in 2025 and earned the conference’s Offensive Player of the Year honor.
The Dutch native, who hails from Nuth, also led the nation in points per game at 3.12, a testament to her offensive versatility.
Coach Andrew Griffiths highlighted Haagmans’s impact, describing her as a “goalscoring threat” who will strengthen the striking line and add depth to the attack.
Derluk, a freshman from Buenos Aires, Argentina, joins after captaining the Under‑18 side at Club Nautico Hacoaj. Coach Griffiths praised her defensive acumen, competitive drive and ability to distribute the ball effectively.
The additions reflect a targeted recruiting approach that blends experienced transfers with emerging talent, positioning the program for a competitive future in the highly contested collegiate landscape.
A Dual‑National Boost
Haagmans’s Dutch roots and Derluk’s Argentine background underscore the global reach of the program, while both players are expected to contribute immediately on the field.
The university’s athletic department, in partnership with its long‑standing sponsors, looks forward to integrating the newcomers into a roster that already boasts a strong foundation.
Fans and alumni alike are eager to see how the new talent will mesh with returning players, hoping the 2026 campaign will translate into a deeper run in the NCAA tournament.
