Scout Attention Grows
The Ole Miss Rebels' 2026 recruiting class is quickly becoming a focal point for NFL talent evaluators, with quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and kicker Lucas Carneiro emerging as early favorites for the 2026 draft.
Chambliss arrived in Oxford after a standout stint at a Division II program in Michigan, immediately translating that success into a pivotal role for the Rebels. In his freshman year he guided the team to one of the most impressive playoff runs in recent memory, finishing eighth in Heisman Trophy voting.
His statistical output was equally compelling: 3,937 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and just three interceptions, complemented by 527 rushing yards and eight scores. Coaches praised his poise and adaptability, noting how quickly he adjusted to a new environment and delivered clutch moments, especially in the 2026 Allstate Sugar Bowl against Georgia.
Kicker Lucas Carneiro, meanwhile, proved equally reliable, converting 88 percent of his field goal attempts and perfect on extra points. His longest kick of the season stretched 58 yards, and he capped the Sugar Bowl with a 47-yard field goal that swung the game in Ole Miss's favor.
Both players are already being projected as top picks in the 2026 NFL draft, a testament to how their early collegiate performances have captured the imagination of scouts looking for the next generation of playmakers.
