Oliver Sterud, a freshman at Pipestone Area Schools, has quickly become a headline name in Minnesota baseball circles.
He earned an all‑Big South Conference first‑team selection as a pitcher/outfielder for the Arrows in the 2026 season and will now test his skills at the Prep Baseball Showcase, an event that draws hundreds of college scouts.
A sibling rivalry on the diamond
His younger brother Elliott Sterud is a key member of the Southwest Minnesota Blaze 12‑under team, which has been invited to the American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame Invitational Tournament in Cooperstown, New York, where the best youth teams from across the country will compete.
The showcase itself runs from July 21‑26 at the LakePoint Sports Complex in Emerson, Georgia, a venue that has hosted the event since its inception in 2011. Over the years the showcase has grown into one of the most heavily scouted high‑school baseball gatherings in the nation, with more than 400 college coaches expected to attend.
Beyond the Sterud brothers, the article highlights a roster of rising talents such as Weston VanDyke, Greyden Douty, Blake Einck and Kolton Hoheisel, each of whom brings a unique skill set to the field. Their performances are closely watched by coaches and scouts eager to gauge the next wave of collegiate prospects.
In addition to the showcase, the Pipestone 10‑ and 12‑under teams are slated to compete in the inaugural Gopher State Postseason Classic in Brainerd from July 24‑26, adding another layer of competition for the region’s youth baseball programs.
