St. John’s University has secured a potent weapon for its women’s basketball team: Olivia Tucker, a rising junior guard who concluded her sophomore season at Campbell University with a career‑high 59 three‑pointers and an average of 9.1 points per game.
Coach Joe Tartamella highlighted Tucker’s shooting precision and upbeat demeanor, noting that her ability to stretch the floor will complement the existing talent on the roster. “She brings a calm confidence that lifts everyone around her,” Tartamella said in the announcement.
A Recruiting Boost for the Red Storm
Tucker’s arrival is the latest addition to a recruiting class that also features transfers Reina Green, Asia Donald, Sanaa Tripp and Yohana Fami. Together, the group promises depth at multiple positions and adds a blend of experience and fresh energy to the program.
What Tucker Brings to Queens
During her two seasons with the Fighting Camels, Tucker started 42 of 67 appearances, scoring in double figures on 18 occasions. She ranked eighth in the Coastal Athletic Association for three‑point shooting and helped the team reach the Women’s National Invitation Tournament in her freshman year. Her 7.9 points and 2.1 assists per game as a freshman hinted at the upward trajectory that culminated in her recent breakout.
Beyond the numbers, Tucker’s positive attitude has been a recurring theme in Tartamella’s remarks. He emphasized that her work ethic and willingness to engage with teammates will be valuable as the program aims to contend for conference honors.
Looking Ahead
With the new class set to arrive on campus, the coaching staff is optimistic that the blend of shooting skill, defensive versatility and seasoned leadership will translate into a competitive season for St. John’s. The university’s athletic department expressed confidence that Tucker’s commitment marks a significant step toward restoring the program’s recent momentum.
