Olympic gold medalist Megan Keller has teamed up with the NHL Foundation to launch a $100,000 Empowerment Grant for Girls Hockey, a initiative designed to remove financial barriers for young female players across the United States.
A Strategic Investment in Women’s Hockey
The funding will be split between the Suburban Hockey Foundation in Michigan, which will receive $50,000, and a broader national program that will support equipment subsidies, rink access and coaching resources for aspiring athletes.
How the Grant Will Be Distributed
Applications for the grant will remain open until September 11, with award decisions slated for announcement in October, giving families a clear timeline to plan their participation.
Application Timeline and Community Outreach
Tom Anastos, chief executive of the Suburban Hockey Foundation, said the partnership reflects a growing recognition of the need to invest in the next generation of women’s hockey talent.
From Farmington Hills to the Olympic Podium
Keller, who first laced up skates at Suburban Ice in Farmington Hills, recalled the excitement of her first goal and the camaraderie that followed, and she now hopes to provide that same sense of belonging for girls who might otherwise never step onto the ice.
A Vision for the Future of Girls’ Hockey
Beyond the monetary support, the grant aims to inspire a cultural shift, encouraging more girls to experience the thrill of competition, teamwork and personal growth that hockey uniquely offers.
