A Revamped Defensive Scheme
Oregon’s defensive front will look familiar next season, as the entire starting defensive line from the 2025 campaign is expected to return. The continuity provides the Ducks with a rare blend of experience and chemistry, setting the stage for a defense that could rank among the nation’s best.
Linebackers and Edge Rushers
Among the returning stalwarts, senior linebacker Devon Jackson brings a proven track record, having logged 41 tackles last year, while edge rushers Matayo Uiagalelei and Teitum Tuioti are poised to anchor the pass rush. Uiagalelei’s 9.5 sacks and 68 tackles in 2025 underscore his impact, and Tuioti’s relentless motor suggests he will continue to pressure opposing quarterbacks.
Secondary and Defensive Backfield
The secondary will see a mix of proven talent and high‑profile transfers. Safety Koi Perich, who arrived from the Minnesota Golden Gophers, is projected to start alongside A’Mauri Washington, a player expected to be a top NFL draft prospect. Their presence adds depth and versatility to a backfield that already features standout cornerback Brandon Finney Jr., a freshman standout from 2025.
Additional pieces include Aydin Breland, whose marked improvement has earned him a key role, and Carl Williams IV, a transfer from the Baylor Bears who is competing for a starting nickel spot. Both players bring experience from Power Five programs and could elevate the Ducks’ defensive versatility.
Coach Dan Lanning’s staff also anticipates contributions from Ify Obidegwu, another transfer who could see significant snaps. The blend of returning starters and strategic acquisitions has generated optimism that the Ducks will not only contend for a conference title but also make a deep run in the postseason.
