A New Era for the Ducks
The University of Oregon’s men’s basketball program is confronting a pivotal moment as it prepares for the 2026‑27 season in the Big Ten.
A season ago the Ducks recorded their worst mark in more than fifteen years, finishing 12‑19 and missing the postseason entirely.
The roster has been reshaped dramatically, with marquee names such as Jackson Shelstad and Kwame Evans Jr. departing for other programs through the transfer portal.
Only senior forward Sean Stewart returns from the previous campaign, leaving Coach Dana Altman with a largely untested lineup that includes freshmen and a host of portal additions.
Rebuilding the Roster
Altman, who has built a reputation for turning programs around, now faces the task of integrating newcomers like Tajh Ariza, Kendre Harrison and Seven Spurlock while also relying on the development of returning big man Sean Stewart.
The coaching staff also includes assistants such as Nate Bittle and Fred Payne, who are working closely with players like Devon Pryor, Jamari Phillips and Efe Vaton to instill a new identity on both ends of the floor.
Early non‑conference results suggest that the team may have enough depth to compete, but the true test will come when the Ducks step into Big Ten play against traditional powerhouses such as Michigan, Ohio State and Indiana.
Fans and analysts alike are watching closely, hoping that the blend of experienced veterans and high‑upside transfers can restore the program to its former competitiveness.
