The long‑dormant rivalry between the Oregon State Beavers and the Oregon Ducks is set to roar back to life as the two schools have agreed to meet four times beginning in the 2028 season.
The inaugural showdown is slated for September 16, 2028 at Reser Stadium in Corvallis, marking the first time the series will open on a Saturday night in over a decade.
That date also commemorates the 130th overall meeting between the programs, a milestone that underscores the depth of a rivalry that dates back to the early 20th century.
Historically, the Beavers and Ducks have tangled 129 times before, a tally that places the matchup among the most played in the Football Bowl Subdivision, trailing only a handful of historic contests.
Only three of those encounters occurred before the month of November, including a 1937 game in Eugene, a 2024 meeting in Corvallis, and a 2025 contest in Eugene, each adding a layer of nostalgia to the upcoming series.
The revival is being bankrolled by a quartet of local partners: Safeway‑Albertsons, PacificSource Health Plans, Your Local Toyota Dealers and First Interstate Bank, each of which will bring branding and community outreach to the schedule.
A new era of rivalry
University officials say the agreement reflects a broader effort to showcase Oregon’s college football culture on a national stage, while also providing a platform for local businesses to connect with a wider audience.
Ticket sales, broadcast rights and ancillary events are already being planned, with the expectation that the games will draw large crowds and generate significant economic activity for the host cities.
As the 2028 season approaches, the renewed series stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of college football traditions, even as the sport continues to evolve.
