Oregon State's baseball squad is confronting a significant shortage of relief pitchers as the 2026 season approaches.
Max Fraser and Calvin Gregory have both entered the transfer portal, joining a wave of departures that also includes seniors Tanner Douglas, AJ Hutcheson, Albert Roblez and Isaac Yeager, many of whom are slated for the MLB Draft or graduation.
A reshaped bullpen
The exodus leaves only Trey Morris as the sole left‑handed option in the bullpen, a situation that could expose the team to vulnerability against left‑handed hitters.
Incoming freshmen Neal Burtis from Maple Valley, Washington, and August Ware from Hillsboro, Oregon, are expected to bolster the staff, each arriving with top‑state pitcher accolades from Baseball Northwest.
Coaches acknowledge that despite the new talent, the roster may still need to hunt for additional left‑handed relief through the portal before the season begins.
