Oregon State’s baseball program is confronting a significant reshuffling of its pitching staff after a cascade of departures from the transfer portal. Freshman All‑American Trey Morris, who finished the 2026 season with a 7‑0 record and a 1.98 ERA, has announced his move, joining a growing list of players seeking new opportunities.
A Rotating Rotation
The loss of Morris is compounded by injuries and graduations that have already thinned the rotation. Dax Whitney, the team’s ace, ended his season with a torn UCL and is projected as a top pick in the 2027 MLB Draft, while fellow starters Eric Segura and Ethan Kleinschmit are slated to be among the first few selections in this year’s draft. The bullpen has also been hit, with relievers Fraser, Gregory and closer Albert Roblez exiting after graduation.
Adding to the upheaval, assistant coach Rich Dorman, who has been instrumental in developing the Beavers’ most reliable arms, is departing for the same role with the Florida Gators. His exit removes a key mentor just as the program looks to plug gaps through the open transfer market, which remains active until July 1.
Recruiting on the Move
In response, Oregon State plans to bolster its staff via the transfer portal and is expecting a strong incoming recruiting class for the next spring. The coaching staff hopes that new arrivals will bring fresh depth and experience, allowing the program to remain competitive despite the recent attrition.
