Oregon State’s baseball program is set to welcome two of the most promising arms from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference as it prepares for the 2027 season. The additions come at a time when the program is seeking to rebound from a strong 2026 campaign that ended with a 45‑14 record and a runner‑up finish in the Eugene Regional final.
Cade Queen and Sam Coxen, both freshmen in 2026, earned Freshman of the Year honors in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference after delivering solid performances for Montana State University Billings. Queen posted a 4‑2 record with a 4.31 ERA across 11 appearances, while Coxen compiled a 4.36 ERA over 74.1 innings and struck out 75 batters.
Their arrivals coincide with a major overhaul of the pitching staff. Longtime coach Rich Dorman left to take a position at the University of Florida, and his departure paved the way for Andrew Moore to assume the role of OSU’s new pitching coach. Trey Morris, who followed Dorman to Gainesville via the transfer portal, is also among the departures.
Adding to the uncertainty, Dax Whitney is currently sidelined by injury, and his return to college baseball remains unclear. Despite these challenges, the Beavers finished the 2026 season with a 45‑14 record and will now navigate a full Pac‑12 schedule in 2027.
A New Pitching Era
With fresh talent and a revamped coaching staff, Oregon State hopes to translate early promise into postseason success. The complete conference slate for the 2027 season is slated for release later this fall, giving fans a first look at the matchups that could define the team’s comeback.
