Defensive Overhaul at Oregon State
As Oregon State gears up for its season opener, the Beavers' coaching staff has placed the defense at the center of fall camp, using the preseason workouts to lay the groundwork for a unit that must replace several key contributors from a year ago.
Defensive coordinator Mike MacIntyre addressed reporters, highlighting the emphasis on tackling fundamentals and the communication patterns he expects from his secondary under a revamped scheme. "We’re drilling the fundamentals every day," he said, "and making sure the guys are on the same page before we hit the field."
Communication and Chemistry
Among the players stepping into expanded roles, linebacker Jabari Odoemenem is drawing particular attention. After stints at Maine and Duquesne University, the senior brings a blend of size and experience that the staff believes can anchor the middle of the defense.
Defensive back Trey Glasper, who has been working on both physical strength and mental consistency, echoed the sentiment. "The offseason was about building a stronger foundation," he noted, "and now we’re translating that into sharper play on the field."
The collective effort reflects a broader ambition: to tighten a defense that struggled with big plays last season and to establish a rhythm that can sustain pressure throughout the schedule. With the opener looming, the Beavers hope the lessons learned in camp will translate into a more cohesive, aggressive unit.
