Orlando is set to become the hub of Olympic qualification action in 2028, as the city will host a series of competitions that determine the final spots for flag football, beach volleyball, sport climbing and park skateboarding.
The events are scheduled to run from June 8 to June 11, 2028, and will be staged at Camping World Stadium, the historic venue formerly known as the Citrus Bowl, which has a longstanding role in the region’s sporting heritage.
Organizers say the Q‑Series format will decide the last three men’s and women’s teams in each of the four sports, culminating in fields of six teams apiece for the Games.
A Historic Venue Revived
Notably, the United States will not enter the flag football qualifier in Orlando, having already secured its Olympic berth as the host nation, a decision that underscores the strategic importance of the tournament for other nations vying for podium places.
The qualifying series is not new to the region; it made its debut in 2024 with events in Shanghai and Budapest, showcasing a lineup that included BMX freestyle, breaking, skateboarding and sport climbing, setting a precedent for the diverse sports now on the Olympic slate.
Orlando’s sporting legacy adds another layer of significance, having previously hosted the 2024 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials and served as a venue for preliminary soccer matches during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics at the same Citrus Bowl site.
With the city’s infrastructure ready and a track record of major events, officials expect a vibrant atmosphere as athletes from around the world converge to earn their place in the 2028 Games.
