The Oshawa Generals are set to honor a defining era of their franchise by bringing back the iconic black-and-gold jerseys that first appeared on the ice in the 1960s.
Retro jerseys return for five marquee matchups
The special “Black/Gold Nights” will see the Generals face off against the Kitchener Rangers, Peterborough Petes, Owen Sound Attack, Brampton Steelheads and Ottawa 67’s, each game celebrating the team’s brief but memorable affiliation with the Boston Bruins.
Founded in 1937 as a junior squad bearing the name of General Motors of Canada, the Generals enjoyed a golden stretch between 1938 and 1944, capturing seven consecutive Ontario Hockey Association titles and three Memorial Cups. After a devastating fire destroyed Hambly’s Arena in 1953, the club was revived in 1964 at the Oshawa Civic Auditorium, laying the groundwork for decades of competitive hockey.
The revived jerseys feature a spoked-G crest that mirrors the design used by the Boston Bruins during their own two-season NHL partnership with the Generals from 1965 to 1967, a visual link that ties the past to the present.
Over the years the Generals have produced a parade of NHL talent, including Hall-of-Famers Bobby Orr and Dave Andreychuk, as well as Eric Lindros and John Tavares, each of whom carried the orange and black banner to the highest levels of professional hockey.
Opening night and the road ahead
The 2026-27 OHL season kicks off with a showdown against the Brampton Steelheads on September 18, followed by the home opener versus the North Bay Battalion two days later. Fans can expect a nostalgic atmosphere as the black-and-gold uniforms make their debut, promising both a tribute to history and a fresh spark for the team’s future.
