A Legendary Lineup
Coach T.J. Otzelberger recently unveiled the five players he would start if he were building his all‑time Cyclones squad, a roster that reflects both program history and his own coaching philosophy.
At the point guard spot, he chose Tamin Lipsey, a hometown product from Ames High who has climbed to fourth all‑time in assists and leads the school in steals and defensive win shares. Complementing him, Izaiah Brockington, who arrived from Penn State, averaged 16.9 points per game and topped the Big 12 in two‑point shooting, while Milan Momcilovic, a sharpshooter from abroad, set a national record for three‑point accuracy.
Joshua Jefferson, a transfer from Saint Mary’s, earned consensus All‑America honors and was selected to the All‑Big 12 first team, while Blake Buchanan, who came from Virginia, anchored the defense at center. Rounding out the starting unit, Curtis Jones was named the sixth man, a role he has turned into a benchmark for impact off the bench.
The lineup not only showcases individual talent but also mirrors the Cyclones’ consistent NCAA tournament appearances over the past five seasons under Otzelberger, a streak that has kept the program in the national conversation.
