The Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) capped the 2026 baseball season with its highest ever placement in the RPI, landing at No. 10, a jump that eclipses the league’s previous best of No. 15.
That surge was underpinned by a historic wave of winning records: six OVC programs finished with at least 30 victories, marking only the second time in league history that such a cluster has been observed.
Two of those programs, Little Rock and Southeast Missouri State, went even further, each compiling 39 wins and either tying or establishing new school records for single‑season triumphs.
Little Rock’s 39‑win campaign also delivered a milestone for the conference, as the team returned to the Super Regionals for the first time since 2018, a feat that underscores the league’s rising competitiveness.
A Season Defined by Firsts
The OVC Tournament itself proved to be one of the most tightly contested in recent memory, with six games decided by a single run and two more slipping away by two runs, while only a solitary contest stretched beyond five runs.
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) seized the moment to claim its inaugural regular‑season championship, posting a program‑record 33 overall wins and cementing the conference’s depth.
Beyond the tournament, OVC squads posted a collective 144‑127 record in non‑conference play, highlighted by a 25‑8 stretch in the final four weeks of the regular season and four victories over nationally ranked opponents, including historic wins against Vanderbilt, Louisville, Tennessee and LSU.
The league’s upward trajectory is also reflected in its performance against top‑tier competition; since 2018 OVC teams have accumulated 34 wins over Top‑25 opponents, and have knocked off four No. 1 ranked teams since 2019, including upsets of Vanderbilt, Louisville, Tennessee and LSU.
