Preseason Offensive Watch List Spotlights Eastern Illinois Talent
The Ohio Valley Conference has released its preseason offensive players to watch for the 2026 football season, a roster that features a striking seven representatives from Eastern Illinois University. The announcement sets the stage for a competitive year in the league, with the Panthers' offensive core already drawing attention from coaches and analysts alike.
At the heart of the spotlight is quarterback Cole LaCrue, a dual‑threat signal‑caller who shattered the EIU single‑game rushing record for a quarterback last season with 193 yards and three touchdowns against Dayton. He concluded the year with 498 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground, while also passing for 851 yards and four scores, completing 54.1 percent of his throws.
Running back Charles Kellom earned his spot after starting all 12 games at the position a year ago and ranking fifth in the OVC in rushing yards. He finished the season with 711 yards and three rushing touchdowns, highlighted by a 133‑yard effort in the opener against Dayton.
Wide receiver Landers Green returns as the Panthers' top receiver, having posted 16 catches for 258 yards and an average of 16.1 yards per reception. His consistent performance earned him a preseason selection at the wide receiver slot.
Tight end Alex Ginnever, who appeared in all 12 games with five starts last season, brings 33 receptions for 307 yards and two touchdowns over the past two years. His reliable route running and scoring ability secured his place on the preseason list at the tight end position.
Rahfeeq Katumbusi, an anchor on the offensive line as a redshirt freshman, earned Freshman All‑America honors and second‑team All‑OVC recognition after making 11 starts at center. His leadership and technique have positioned him as a key figure on the line this year.
Max Loveall, previously a starter on special teams and a reserve wide receiver, was named to the All‑Purpose spot after appearing in every game last season. This spring he made a strategic shift, moving from wide receiver to tight end, adding versatility to the Panthers' offense.
Kicker Drew Schiller rounded out the offensive recognitions after serving as the starting place kicker for field goals and extra points in ten games. He handled all 12 kickoff duties, converting 11 field goals and succeeding on 21 extra‑point attempts.
