The Ohio Valley Conference announced that, beginning with the 2026 football season, its member schools will compete under a unified OVC identity, retiring the joint branding that had linked the league with the Big South Conference for the past three years.
The move marks the end of a three‑year partnership that saw the league operate under the names Big South‑OVC Football Association and OVC‑Big South Football Association, a collaboration that began in February 2022 after the two conferences recognized complementary geographies and athletic philosophies.
Reclaiming heritage while looking ahead
OVC leaders said the rebranding reflects a commitment to the conference’s storied past and a forward‑looking vision that will provide long‑term stability for its eight institutions. Updated logos, digital assets and promotional material will be rolled out across the offseason, signaling a fresh era for OVC football.
The conference will host an in‑person Media Day in Nashville on July 16‑17, giving journalists and fans a first look at the new visual identity and a chance to hear from the schools that will carry the OVC banner onto the gridiron.
The eight universities that will field OVC football teams in 2026 are Charleston Southern University, Eastern Illinois University, Gardner‑Webb University, Lindenwood University, Southeast Missouri State University, Tennessee State University, the University of Tennessee at Martin and Western Illinois University, each bringing its own regional flavor to the renewed competition.
Conference officials, including Matt Wilson, B. Keith Faulkner and Jay Gatrell, emphasized that the realignment is designed to strengthen the league’s brand, enhance exposure and ensure a cohesive competitive environment for student‑athletes across the participating campuses.
