Ozark Schools has named Ray Godfrey as the interim head coach of the Tigers football program, tapping a familiar face to steer the team through the upcoming season. Godfrey, who has been part of the district’s athletics since 2008, will oversee practices and games while the school conducts a comprehensive search for a permanent head coach.
A veteran with deep roots in the community
Godfrey brings more than three decades of coaching experience, having served as an assistant in football, baseball and wrestling and as the head strength and conditioning coach. Prior to his current role, he led the football program at Neosho from 1992 to 2007, capturing three conference championships and five district titles.
Athletic Director Yancey Little highlighted Godfrey’s extensive experience and the relationships he has built across the district as decisive factors in the appointment. "His knowledge of our athletes and our community makes him the ideal person to provide continuity while we find the right long‑term fit," Little said in a statement.
Godfrey earned his degrees in math, business and education from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri. He holds a strong connection to the region, having grown up and built his career within the state’s high school sports landscape.
