The Pahrump Valley High School girls flag football program is entering its second season with more experience and higher expectations, having already showcased its progress during a summer camp that ran from June 1 through June 5.
Head coach Jeff Corbett says the team feels more confident and aggressive this year, a shift he attributes to a deeper understanding of the sport and the return of most of last season’s roster.
Among the standout athletes, senior Diona Nixon, a standout in soccer and track, will be difficult to replace because of her speed, but Corbett believes Ma’liyah Collins and Angie Mercado are ready to step into larger roles.
Alongside the players, assistant coaches Edward Rankin and Jessica VanderWal have been instrumental in laying the foundation of the program, helping newcomers grasp the nuances of flag football.
A Vision That Extends Beyond Wins
The Trojans are also focusing on growth beyond the field, organizing fundraising through sponsorship banners, developing spirit packs, and planning new uniforms to reinforce team identity. Corbett has assembled a full schedule that includes 18 games, opening the season at home on December 3 against Eldorado High School, and he envisions the program as a platform for representation and community engagement.
