For nearly four decades, the Belleview Soccer Club has been more than a place to play; it has been a gathering point for families across the region, fostering community spirit and youth development.
Safety Concerns Mount Over Deteriorating Fields
Parents and coaches have repeatedly flagged potholes, uneven surfaces and other hazards that have accumulated through years of wear and delayed maintenance, creating an environment they say endangers young athletes.
Despite documented complaints, county commissioners have visited the nearly five‑acre complex only once in recent years, and no concrete repair plan has been implemented, leaving families to shoulder the burden of patching the grounds with personal funds.
Coach Justin Deborde, who has led the club for several seasons, notes that the neglect has taken a toll on the program’s reputation and morale, contributing to a steep decline in registration numbers this fall.
Calls for Immediate Attention
Erin Benavides, a longtime volunteer, emphasizes that families are not demanding priority over other projects but simply want the soccer complex included in the county’s broader renovation conversation, urging officials to experience the conditions firsthand.
County Parks and Recreation leaders have acknowledged the complex as a priority, yet funding decisions remain stalled, prompting the club’s supporters to press for a clear commitment from elected officials.
