South Korean basketball standout Park Ji-hyun, a veteran of the WNBA and a three‑time champion with Asan Woori Bank, has announced her move to Project B, a freshly launched international league aimed at reshaping women's basketball worldwide.
The new venture, created by Geoff Prentice and Grady Burnett, will field six teams in both men's and women's divisions, each roster comprising 11 players. A training camp scheduled for January 6‑12, 2027, will take place in Seoul's Gangnam district, underscoring the league's commitment to developing basketball culture in Korea.
Seoul's Role in Project B
Park expressed pride in bringing the league's inaugural camp to Seoul, noting the city's growing influence on the sport and its ability to connect local talent with a global audience. Her presence, she said, reflects a broader ambition to elevate Korea's profile in the international basketball community.
The league's schedule runs from January to April 2027, deliberately avoiding the WNBA's May‑October window, and it promises competitive compensation along with equity stakes for its female athletes — features that differentiate it from the established WNBA model.
Among the notable figures lending their support are Alana Beard, the WNBA chief basketball officer, and former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook, alongside NFL legend Steve Young and tennis great Novak Djokovic, who have all been named to the league's advisory circle. In addition, WNBA stalwarts such as Nneka Ogwumike and Alyssa Thomas have already committed to participating.
Tournaments are slated for Asia, Europe and Latin America, with confirmed stops in Valencia, Spain, and Tokyo, Japan, providing a platform for cross‑continental competition and fostering a truly global basketball community that links players, coaches and officials through Seoul's vibrant scene.
