The Spokane Chiefs have appointed Parker Burgess as their associate coach for the upcoming 2026‑27 campaign, a move that underscores the franchise’s intent to blend proven leadership with fresh ideas.
Burgess arrives after a standout tenure with the Muskegon Lumberjacks, where he captured the USHL’s first ever Clark Cup title in 2025 and guided the team to a 38‑16‑0‑8 record. His two‑and‑a‑half seasons in Muskegon produced 91 wins and helped launch 13 players into the NHL draft, five of whom were selected in the first round.
Championship pedigree and player development
Prior to Muskegon, Burgess served as head coach of the Vancouver Giants and spent three seasons leading the Janesville Jets of the NAHL, a period that earned him the league’s Coach of the Year award in 2021. He began his coaching path as an assistant at the University of St. Thomas, where he also played collegiately and captured an NCAA Division III MIAC championship in 2010.
Head Coach Brad Lauer said he is excited to welcome Burgess, citing his championship pedigree and the wealth of experience he brings to the bench. General Manager Matt Bardsley added that Burgess’s communication skills and deep network make him a perfect fit for the organization.
The Chiefs will open the season on the road against the Tri‑City Americans on September 19, before hosting their home opener on September 26 at 6:05 p.m. The schedule promises a competitive start to the new roster.
