Parker Byrd, a senior infielder for East Carolina University, was recently presented with the 2026 American Conference Community Impact Award, a honor that celebrates athletes who make a tangible difference beyond the diamond.
The accolade comes with a $2,000 contribution to the university’s life‑skills program and was accompanied by a Laurel Wreath bestowed by North Carolina Governor Josh Stein, recognizing Byrd’s sustained service to sport in the state.
A Legacy of Service
Byrd’s journey to this moment began in the summer of 2022, when a boating accident resulted in the loss of his right leg below the knee. After a lengthy rehabilitation, he returned to the ECU baseball roster just thirteen months later, a timeline that many described as nothing short of remarkable.
Off the field, Byrd founded the Limbitless Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting amputees, and has been an active champion of Homers That Help, a fundraising initiative that benefits ECU Children’s Hospital.
Through Riley’s Army, he works alongside pediatric cancer patients, and his outreach extends to local schools and hospitals where he shares his story to inspire resilience among young fans.
