Parker Byrd, a senior infielder at East Carolina University, has been named the 2026 recipient of the American Conference Community Impact Award, marking the second time a Pirate baseball student‑athlete receives the honor.
Community Initiatives
Through the Limbitless Foundation, Byrd supports amputees, while his Homers That Help campaign raises funds for the ECU Children's Hospital. He also partners with Riley's Army to aid pediatric cancer patients and works with Aces for Autism to assist children facing medical challenges. Regular visits to local schools and hospitals allow him to provide mentorship and encouragement to young fans.
Byrd’s personal journey includes a severe boating accident in 2022 that resulted in the amputation of his right leg. He returned to the baseball diamond just 13 months later, turning his experience into a source of inspiration for teammates and community members alike.
The award includes a $2,000 contribution to the university’s life‑skills program, and in 2025 Governor Josh Stein presented Byrd with the Laurel Wreath, acknowledging his contributions to sports and athletics in North Carolina.
Byrd’s blend of athletic resilience and charitable focus continues to shape a legacy that extends beyond the field, encouraging peers and younger athletes to pursue service as passionately as they pursue competition.
